Kadakani is a traditional Maharashtrian recipe. Generally kadakani is made during Navaratei for offering to Goddess. In some places some ornaments are also offered to Goddess as a part of tradition. Let’s see how to make kadakani and ornaments. You can make these as snack on other times too.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup Water
  • 3 tbsp Powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup Fine Rava / Sooji
  • 1/2 cup Maida / All purpose flour
  • 1 tsp Oil

Instructions

  • Take water in a bowl and add powdered sugar. Mix well.
  • Sugar should completely dissolve in water. Keep it aside.
  • You can use milk instead of water.
  • Take rava into a bowl. Add maida, salt, oil, and mix well.
  • You can add hot oil too.
  • Add sugar water and knead the dough.
  • Give it a coating of oil.
  • Cover and rest the dough for an hour.
  • Take the dough and knead it once more.
  • Make small balls from it.
  • Roll poori from each dough ball. Roll poori as thin as possible.
  • Kadakani should not puff up like poori.
  • Make small holes with the help of a fork on each kadakani.
  • Keep the ready kadakani aside.
  • For making fani, roll a poori.
  • Do not roll thin poori. Keep it a little thick so that it will retain the shape.
  • Cut the poori into half.
  • Give cuts across each half. Do not cut up to both edges. Just give the shape of fani.
  • For making Veni, make three small balls of dough.
  • Make rolls from it.
  • Take the rolls together and seal one end of it.
  • Roll it into veni as we roll regular veni.
  • Seal the other end as well. You can give small cuts to another end of veni.
  • For making jodavi, make small roll and seal its ends. Make 2 jodavi.
  • For making payal, make 2 small rolls and flatten them a little with rolling pin.
  • Make design on each payal with the help of fork. Payal is already.
  • Heat up oil on medium heat.
  • Drop kadakani into oil and fry until it gets light golden color from both sides. Do not make it brown.
  • Fry kadakani on medium heat only.
  • Take kadakani out of oil.
  • Drop each ornament into oil and fry until it gets light golden color.
  • Kadakani and ornaments for goddess ire already.
