Introduction:

Mix Dal Tadka is a simple yet delicious recipe which requires minimum efforts and is less time consuming. It makes a lip-smacking combo when had with piping hot Jeera Rice :D

Preparation time : 15 mts
Cooking time : 30 mts
Serves : 4 people

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup Toor Dal
  • 1/4 cup Moong Dal
  • 1/4 cup Chana Dal
  • 1 tbsp Butter
  • 1 Tomato chopped
  • 2 Green chillies finely chopped
  • 1 tsp Grated Ginger
  • Pinch of Hing
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder

For Tempering

  • 2 tsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 tbsp chopped Garlic
  • 1/2 tsp Garam Masala
  • 1/2 tsp Red Chilli powder
  • 5 to 6 Curry Leaves
  • 2 to 3 slit Green chillies

Method

  • Wash and soak chana dal in enough water for 4 hours.
  • After 4 hours rinse toor dal and moong dal and mix with chana dal in pressure cooker.
  • Add hing, turmeric, tomatoes, green chillies, ginger, mix well.
  • Cover and pressure cook until 4 whistles.
  • Once dal is cooked completely then add butter and salt and mix it properly.
  • For tempering heat up 2 tsp oil, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, chopped garlic and cook for 2 minutes.
  • Add curry leaves, garam masala, red chilli powder, green chillies, mix well.
  • Pour tempering over boiled dal and garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Serve hot with Jeera rice!

Hello Sneha, sorry for late reply. My guess is Dal quality may not be good. I had similar issue with dal and when I got newer packet, it cooked perfectly fine. Or you can try not soaking the dal and then cook it directly in the cooker. I hope this will help. Take care.

hey madhura my husband really liked the dal I made wid your recipe yesterday.. though he is fond of my normal varan I make.. but the twist I did yesterday, he has bcm more fond of dal..!! thank u so mch for this recipe..!! i m going to try otbers too.!! n yes i want to ask u, i brought a tur dal packet from an indain store, i mn i stay in Australia, but the dal doesn't cook well , i sock it before cooking but still it din work, one of my frnd told me to put some oil while putting it in cooker for cooking but still it din work.. :( may b the dal is not of gud quality but i dnt knw wt more to do?? can plz suggest a tip to get the dal cook properly?? n yes have tried soda too..!! thank u so mch.!!! waiting for ur reply..!! smile takecare..!

hi madhura, well firstly I really like all ur recipes has dey r vy simple n easy to understand grin..!! and I have tried some too.!!! all turned out to b grt.!!! thank u so mch for all ur recipes.!! well I have some concern with this mix dal tadto use it??ka, u have mentioned butter but u din tell wn to use it.i jus read ur recipe so found it.. can u plz tell me whn to use it?? thanxs !
