Introduction:

It is easy, simple and healthy. It can be served as one dish meal as it is stomach filling. It is a soft textured dhokli immersed in medium thick dal. It is mildly sweet with spicy taste of aromatic spices and crunch of peanuts.

Cooking time : 40 to 50 mts
Serves : 2 people

Ingredients:

For Dumpings

  • 1 cup Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1/4 cup Besan
  • 1 tsp Red Chilli powder
  • Salt to taste

-----For Dal-----

  • 1/2 cup Toor Dal
  • 2 tbsp Ghee
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • Pinch of Hing
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 5 to 6 Curry Leaves
  • 1 tsp Red Chilli powder
  • 1 tsp Garam Masala
  • 2 Green Chillies
  • 2 tbsp Tamarind Pulp
  • 1 tbsp Jaggery / Gudh
  • 1 Tomato chopped

Method

  • Wash and soak toor dal for 1/2 hour.
  • Add toor dal in pressure cooker and boil until 3 to 4 whistles.
  • Take whole wheat flour and besan in mixing bowl.
  • To that add red chilli powder and salt to taste and mix well.
  • Now add water slowly to make that in to very stiff dough.
  • Cover and let it rest for 30 mts.
  • Now take boile dal, add some water and mash really well.
  • Heat up ghee and oil in a kadhai.
  • Once its hot add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaf, hing and let all the spices sizzle up.
  • Then add turmeric powder and boiled dal.
  • Now add chopped tomatoes, red chilli powder, garam masala, salt to taste and bring that to boil over medium high heat.
  • After it comes to boil then add tamarind pulp followed by jaggery and give it a very good stir.
  • Now take a dough and divide that in to tine lemon size balls.
  • Apply oil on rolling board, take one of the ball and roll out in to very very thin roti.
  • Now cut the roti with pizza cutter in small diamond.
  • Put those diamond sized roti bites in to boiling dal.
  • Repeat the same process with entire dough.
  • After you add all dumpling in dal, cover the dal and simmer it over medium high heat for about 30 to 40 minutes right till the time dumplings are very well cooked.
  • Make sure that you give it a stir in between.
  • Garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves!
