Ingredients

  • 1 cup Maida / All purpose flour
  • A pinch of Salt
  • 1 tsp Ghee
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • 1/2 tsp Poppy seeds
  • 1 cup Coconut
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Khoya / Mawa (Optional)
  • Dry fruits
  • Cardamom powder
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  • Take maida in a dish.
  • Add pinch of salt and ghee.
  • Mix everything well together.
  • Add a little water at a time and knead thick dough from it.
  • Do not make thin dough. Transfer the dough into a bowl and cover it.
  • Give it a resting time of about 30 minutes.
  • Heat up a pan on medium heat.
  • Add poppy seeds and roast them until these turn nice reddish.
  • Add coconut and roast it for just about 2 minutes.
  • Add sugar and khoya. Adding khoya is optional. You can skip it if you don’t like.
  • Add dry fruits and mix well. Cook the mixture for just about 4-5 minutes.
  • Turn off the gas and the stuffing is already. Let it cool down.
  • Knead the dough again and make small balls from it. Roll pari from it.
  • The pari should neither too thick and not too thin. Do not use any dry flour while rolling pari.
  • Add stuffing and make plates. Bring them together and seal them properly.
  • Heat up oil on medium heat.
  • Drop modak one by one and fry until they get nice golden from all sides.
  • You can seal modak once more before dropping them into oil.
  • Take them out of oil and drian excess oil and transfer them into a dish.
  • Fried modak are already.

Notes

  • Seal the plates properly or the modak may open up while frying and stuffing may come out. So seal the modak really good before frying.
  • Fry modak on medium heat only.
