Spinach Pakoda is a very popular Indian snack food - especially in the North. The chickpea batter gives them a unique flavour, and their crispy crust encases all spinach leaves. This is very easy to prepare and hardly takes half an hour to be ready to be served.


  • 1 cup Gram flour / besan
  • 1 tsp Red Chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp Carom Seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • Spinach Leaves
  • Pinch of baking soda
Palak Pakoda


  • Take besan a mixing bowl. Add all dry spices to it and mix this all well.
  • Gradually pour the water and mix to form a smooth batter.
  • Heat oil in a pan on a medium high.
  • Coat the spinach leaves in the batter and fry them in small batches until golden brown. Drain on paper towels before serving.
